It is better to have lost - surfboard fishing 121319

Torrey, 2:14pm low tide, -0.4ft.

Out there 2 hours before, combing the rips.  I made it down to flat rock and the most rancid smelly rotten eggs almost overcame me and smothered me drowned.  There was nasty kelp in my fishing hole, with gurgling swirls of decomposed plant matter swaying back and forth in the surf zone, reminding me of dead bodies floating off the shore.  I threw a couple lures then left.

Making my way back, I looked in a deep crevice in shore, between the ripples of the waves, I see....Spongebob!  Holy cowcicles!  I reached down deep and plucked Spongebob from the dark, murky depths...Here he is!

I was so elated to have saved Spongebob!  This was a great sign!

I continued on with my excursion.  With Spongebob in hand, I clambered out to some far, deep, treacherous ripe tides, with pounding waves off-shore, and sucking rips laden with seaweed, trash, and.....Halibut!.

I hooked into a gondo, a feisty behemoth, 20 pounder.   Next to a perfect rip, 10 minutes into it.  100 yards from high tide line.  Bam!  Holy cow!  Waves crashing, line goes slack, still on!  Start making my way back in, trip over a sand burm, watch a set come and wall up in front of me, line goes slack, then, whizzzzzzz, snapppp!!!!!    Aye!

I watched as the halibut skirted its tail, sent a couple of flutters, then swam off unhindered back into the rip, back into the sea.

I lost.  I fought with the Halibut and I came out a loser.  This stuck with me for weeks.  Tossed and turned, no sleep.  Over and over, play back, play forward....I lost.   Lost Lost Lost Lost.

Some time later, a realization came to me:

At least I saved Spongebob!  Yeah! ....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

AAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Hardy har har har har!  Bwahaha!

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?

Spongebob is safe with me now.  All is well.  The Ocean is safer now, with one less piece of plastic in it's belly, one less sponge floating in the sea.

Welcome home Spongebob...

Darrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!
